Eric Steinmann
Youth Instructor
After graduating, Eric went on a two month road trip across the United States hitting every National Park he drove past. Eventually ending up in Kentucky, he met his wife and became the Head Youth Coach at L’Escalade and climbed every weekend in the Red River Gorge. After coaching, Eric became a substitute teacher at The Lexington School. Here, he led kids on backpacking trips through the Gorge, surfing in North Carolina, skiing in Breckenridge and backpacking in Zion and the Grand Canyon. Being in Utah again sparked his love for high places and convinced Eric to move to Salt Lake City.
Growing up, Eric’s mother instilled in him a deep love and respect for nature that would permeate his whole life. Passing that same sentiment on to the next generation is Eric's passion. He believes that getting outside and having fun among trees and wildlife is an important part of human development and a child’s mental wellbeing. It is his hope that introducing a sense of peace in nature at a young age will bring lifelong tools for these kids as they grow throughout life.
Outside of class you can find Eric paragliding at Point of the Mountain, climbing in Big or Little Cottonwood Canyon, or looking through his binoculars at birds while his wife and dog tell him to hurry up.
Eric grew up nestled in the mountain valley of Wrightwood, California. Just five minutes from Mt. High Ski Resort, an hour and a half from the beach and Joshua Tree National Park, he was surrounded by nature. Growing up skiing, surfing, and backpacking gave him a profound love of and sense of meaning in the outdoors. His love for the outdoors was elevated when he worked at Telluride Academy where he was a watersports instructor and camp counselor. Eric then went to UCLA and received a bachelor’s in History.
